Kenya's national and county governments owed Kenya Power KSh 7.35 billion in unpaid electricity bills in the year to June 2026, up 9.5%, equal to 17.7% of its gross postpaid receivables, Business Daily reported on 12 October 2026.

On 3 October 2026, Kenya Power told customers to ignore its hacked @KenyaPower_Care X account and to use its other official channels while it recovers the account. The Standard reported that the account had carried cryptocurrency posts.
