Kenya's NLC gives notice to acquire 11 parcels for Kiambu Road dualling, a Stecol contract financed by a China EXIM Bank loan

The National Land Commission has given notice that it intends to acquire 11 parcels in Nairobi and Kiambu counties for dualling the Muthaiga–Kiambu–Ndumberi road, Kenyans.co.ke and The Kenya Times reported on 7 November 2026. The KSh 38.7 billion road is contracted to Chinese firm Stecol Corporation and financed by a China EXIM Bank loan, Mjengo Hub and Construction Review reported in March 2026.

China says imports from zero-tariff countries rose 15.3%; Kenyan avocado, coffee sales to China up

China's imports from its zero-tariff countries were 867.53 billion yuan in January–September, up 15.3% on a year earlier, Xinhua reported on 14 October; Kenyan avocado and coffee exports to China rose between May and August.

Kenya's Ministry of Education announced on 5 November 2026 that applications for 15 Chinese Government Scholarships for 2027/2028 must reach its Nairobi office by 18 November.

Gabon's president tells Xinhua he wants deeper China ties in trade, resources, training

Gabon plans to promote processed wood products, palm oil, coffee and cocoa at the China International Import Expo in Shanghai from 5 to 10 November, President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema said in a Xinhua interview published on 4 November during his state visit to China.

China and Kenya sign Africa Solar Belt MOU for off-grid solar power in remote Kenya

China and Kenya signed a memorandum of understanding on 3 November 2026 to install off-grid solar power for schools, health facilities and water systems in remote rural Kenya, with UNICEF as a third party, the Chinese Embassy in Nairobi said.

Zambia's IDC and China's Jijia sign cholera vaccine plant deal in Lusaka, first phase US$24.13m

Zambia's Industrial Development Corporation and China's Jijia International Medical Technology signed a joint venture agreement on 2 November 2026 for a cholera vaccine plant in Lusaka; the first phase is estimated at US$24.13 million, with capacity of up to 20 million doses a year.

China's envoys to visit Ethiopia, Djibouti, Egypt and Eritrea in November

Liu Xianfa, China's Special Representative on African Affairs, will visit Ethiopia, Djibouti and Egypt in early and mid-November, and Hu Changchun, the Foreign Ministry's Horn of Africa envoy, will visit Eritrea in early November, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said on 2 November.

Tanzania is sending 36 enterprises and government institutions to the China International Import Expo in Shanghai on 5–10 November, Xinhua reported on 1 November; the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry said in June that Kenyan exhibitors will show avocados, tea and coffee.

Kenyan Rironi–Naivasha road section built by China Road and Bridge Corporation: opening slips from the end of October to December

Roads and Transport CS Davis Chirchir has moved the opening of the Rironi–Naivasha section of the Rironi–Mau Summit road, built by China Road and Bridge Corporation, from the end of October to December 2026, the Daily Nation reported on 31 October. Chirchir has blamed a shortage of bitumen for delays on the road.

Kenya among Horn of Africa countries invited to Chengdu think-tank workshop with Xinjiang visit

Hu Changchun, China's Special Envoy for Horn of Africa Affairs, attended the opening on 29 October of a training workshop in Chengdu for think-tank and media representatives from countries including Kenya, who will also visit Xinjiang, China's Foreign Ministry said on 30 October.

Kenya's Turkana governor thanks China for zero tariffs in meeting with Chinese Ambassador Guo Haiyan

Turkana Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai thanked China for its zero-tariff policy when he met Chinese Ambassador Guo Haiyan on 28 October; Guo met Salim Mvurya, Kenya's Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports, on 30 October, the Chinese Embassy in Kenya said on its website.

SEPCOIII upgrades KenGen's Olkaria I geothermal plant in Kenya from 45 MW to 63 MW

Chinese contractor SEPCOIII Electric Power Construction has upgraded all three units of KenGen's Olkaria I geothermal plant in Kenya's Hell's Gate National Park, raising its capacity from 45 MW to 63 MW, Xinhua reported on 28 October. Xinhua calls Olkaria I Africa's first geothermal power station.
