China Gezhouba-built Thwake Dam in Kenya 94% complete; ministry targets water storage by end-January 2027

Kenya's Water Ministry says Thwake Dam, built by China Gezhouba Group Company, was 94% complete in October 2026, with water storage targeted for the end of January 2027 and commissioning by President William Ruto for the end of April 2027, Kenyans.co.ke reported on 25 October 2026.

Kenya targets end of January 2027 to start filling Thwake Dam, built by China Gezhouba Group

Kenya's government is targeting the end of January 2027 to start storing water at the Thwake Multipurpose Dam, with commissioning planned for April, after extra African Development Bank funding of KSh 10.6 billion restarted work, The Star reported on 16 October 2026. The Kenya News Agency gave the same dates on 9 October.
