About the event

Afriart Gallery presents new work by veteran Ugandan artist Sanaa Gateja, known as 'The Bead King' for his technique of making beads from recycled paper. The show features paper-bead tapestries on bark cloth, new works on banana fibre, and found-root sculptures examining material, memory and transformation.

Gateja, who studied in Florence and London before returning to Uganda, has used his bead-making practice to employ thousands of local women since the 1990s.
