Kenya's e-Citizen portal to have overnight maintenance 10 pm–5 am on 14–15 November, with possible disruption
Kenya's National Treasury has scheduled a second overnight maintenance window for the e-Citizen portal, from 10 pm on 14 November to 5 am on 15 November, and warned of service interruptions or limited access, Kenyans.co.ke and The Kenya Times reported on 5 November.
Kenya's e-Citizen government services portal will be under maintenance from 10 pm on Saturday 14 November to 5 am on Sunday 15 November, according to a National Treasury notice dated 5 November. The notice came from the Treasury's Government Digital Payments Department.
It is the second of two overnight windows with the same hours. The first was set for 10 pm on 7 November to 5 am on 8 November.
The Treasury said users may face service interruptions or limited access to the platform and its linked services during both windows. It advised them to complete urgent transactions before the maintenance begins, and apologised for the inconvenience. The notice names the e-Citizen platform as a whole and lists no specific services as affected.
The maintenance is meant to “facilitate system upgrades, improve performance, enhance security, and ensure the continued reliability of services”, the notice said, as quoted by The Kenya Times.
The Kenya Times listed the services linked to the platform. The Directorate of Immigration Services handles passport applications and renewals, visas, work permits, student passes and dual citizenship endorsements.
The Kenya Revenue Authority takes payments for domestic taxes, customs duty and domestic excise through the portal. The Business Registration Service handles company name searches, business registration and civil partnership applications.
The National Transport and Safety Authority uses it for provisional driving licences, driving test bookings, vehicle inspections and transport fee payments. Civil Registration Services covers birth and death certificates and adoption records, and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations issues police clearance certificates, also called certificates of good conduct.
The Attorney General's Office offers civil marriage applications, wedding date bookings and certified copies of marriage certificates. The Kenya Wildlife Service takes guest house reservations, park hostel charges, and wildlife utilisation and filming permits.
The Ministry of Lands and Physical Planning runs online title deed searches and land rent clearance payments on the portal, and the Higher Education Loans Board handles loan applications and management.
