Kenya to establish one-stop border post at Konyao in West Pokot, Interior CS says
Kipchumba Murkomen said the post will target smuggling of firearms, drugs and illicit alcohol while keeping trade open, The Star and KBC reported on 14 October 2026.
The government will establish a One-Stop Border Post at Konyao in West Pokot County, Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen said on 14 October, The Star and the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) reported.
Murkomen said the facility will help stop the smuggling of illegal firearms, drugs and illicit alcohol. He also said it would keep out other contraband and strengthen border surveillance.
"The border post will ensure that as we facilitate legitimate cross-border trade, criminals do not enter our country and illicit alcohol does not find its way into Kenya," Murkomen said, as quoted by The Star and KBC.
He spoke in West Pokot while accompanying President William Ruto on a development tour of the county.
On the same tour, Ruto launched the upgrade to bitumen standard of the 24-kilometre Konyao-Kiwawa-Alale Road, which is expected to improve connectivity within the county and ease the movement of people and goods. He also flagged off the Kacheliba Last Mile Connectivity Project, which seeks to extend electricity access to more households and businesses.
West Pokot shares a border with Uganda.
